German-born Ghanaian defender Leroy Kwadwo has completed a move to Borussia Dortmund, signing a short-term contract with the Bundesliga giants, the club have confirmed.
The former TSV 1860 Munich centre-back joins Dortmund on a free transfer during the January transfer window and will be part of the club’s U23 setup, competing in the Regionalliga for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
In an official statement announcing the signing, Borussia Dortmund revealed that Kwadwo has agreed terms until June 30, 2026, having previously been without a club.
“Central defender Leroy Kwadwo joins Borussia Dortmund’s U23 team. The 29-year-old was previously without a club and has signed a contract until June 30, 2026. Leroy Kwadwo began his professional career at Rot-Weiss Essen, and the Herten native was most recently under contract with TSV 1860 Munich. During his career, the defender made 130 appearances in the 3. Liga and 40 in the Regionalliga. He also played four times in the 2. Bundesliga for Würzburger Kickers,” the statement read.
Dortmund’s U23 sporting director Ingo Preuß welcomed the signing, highlighting Kwadwo’s experience and leadership qualities.
“Leroy has agreed at short notice to fill the gap in our central defence. With his experience, especially from the 3rd division, he will not only bring stability, but also support and further develop our young players,” Preuß told the club’s official website.
Born in Herten, Kwadwo remains eligible to represent Ghana at international level due to his heritage, keeping the door open for a potential future call-up to the Black Stars.
