German center-back Jerome Boateng will continue his career at LASK Linz as a free agent following Salernitana’s relegation to Serie B.
This move marks Boateng’s first experience outside the big leagues, having previously played for Hertha Berlin, Hamburg, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Olympique Lyon.
Boateng joined Salernitana during the January transfer window but made only seven appearances and was unable to prevent the team’s relegation.
His last season at Olympique Lyon also saw limited action, with just eight appearances, totaling only 15 appearances over the past two seasons.
At LASK Linz, Boateng aims to face less formidable opponents and regain regular playing time. LASK general manager Siegmund Gruber expressed excitement about the signing, stating, “It’s absolutely crazy and unbelievable. He is an exceptional player and an international role model athlete.”
Boateng shared his enthusiasm for this new chapter in his career: “I received numerous offers, but I consciously chose LASK because I was completely convinced by the sporting approach, the idea, and the vision of the club.”
