Rot-Weiss Essen have strengthened its squad with the signing of Ruben Reisig. The midfielder successfully completed the RWE medical check, signed his new employment contract in Essen, Sunday 18th January, 2026.

He’s being transferred with immediate effect from the TSG Hoffenheim second team to Hafenstraße. He will wear the number 16 jersey for RWE in the future.

Born in Prien am Chiemsee, Reisig progressed through the VfR Aalen teams from the U18 level, making his debut for their first team in the 3. Liga in 2015. After moving to 1. CfR Pforzheim in the Regionalliga, he had stints with SSV Reutlingen 05, Stuttgarter Kickers, and SGV Freiberg.

In 2024, Reisig then joined the second team of TSG Hoffenheim, with which he was able to celebrate promotion to the 3rd division as champions of the Regionalliga Südwest in his first season. In the first half of the 2025/26 season game in Essen (3-1 for RWE), Reisig played the full 90 minutes. In the current season, the midfielder has made 18 starting appearances, in which he has assisted two goals.

RWE director of professional football Marcus Steegmann says: “With Ruben, we are getting a physically strong defensive midfielder. For our Hafenstraße football, he brings the right dynamism, mentality, and strength in duels. His strong heading ability can be advantageous for us both defensively and offensively. Especially in the context of the young Hoffenheim team, he took on a central leadership role and brought stability and guidance to the team. All these qualities convinced us that Ruben is an ideal addition to our squad. He will expand our options in midfield.”

Ruben Reisig says: “When the offer from RWE came, I didn’t have to think for long. The club brings an enormous charisma and power that you can feel throughout the league. This is reflected in the club’s structures, in the intense style of play, as well as in the incredible fans who support the team week after week, both away and at home. I was able to get a good impression of this myself in the first half of the season. I am very happy to be here and to get to know the team now. I will give it my all at the Hafenstraße as quickly as possible.”
