German-born centre-back Maxwell Gyamfi has joined Bundesliga 3 side VfL Osnabruck ahead of the 2022-23 football league season, the club have announced.
The defender, who was born in Dortmund, was trained at Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04’s junior academy. With the intermediate station Hombrucher SV, Gymafi switched to the U19s of VfL Bochum in 2019, where he not only trained with the professionals, but was also able to get a taste of squad air in the 2nd Bundesliga.
He moved to Hamburger SV for the 2020/21 season. There, Gyamfi was team captain of the U23 team of the “Red Pants” and made 18 appearances in the Regionalliga Nord last season, as well as nine other final round games.
“We have looked very closely at Maxwell Gyamfi’s sporting career. In the first week of training, our head coach Daniel Scherning and I had the opportunity to get a direct picture of him and to get to know each other.
Moin Maxwell! Wir freuen uns auf Dich! 💜

”Maxwell absolutely convinced us in terms of sport and character and, despite his previous status as a tryout player, he fitted in perfectly with the team,” explains VfL sporting director Amir Shapourzadeh.
“Maxwell is a highly talented and well-trained defender who, with his athleticism and tackling skills, offers us further options, especially in central defence.”
