President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has announced an unprecedented financial boost for the Ghana Premier League (GPL), unveiling a record GHC2 million cash prize for the 2025/26 champions.

The announcement came during the GFA’s 31st Ordinary Congress at the E.T. Mensah Hall, Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram, where Okraku described the increase as a historic moment for the league. The new prize represents a fourfold jump from the previous GHC500,000 awarded to last season’s winners.

“The winner of the 2025/26 GPL will take home GHS 2 million as prize money,” Okraku said. “This is a story that has never been told, but today it’s being told. Every point in the Premier League is important, and now there’s GHS 2 million at stake.”

Expanded Prize Structure
The GFA President explained that the revised prize structure aims to reward excellence and increase competitiveness throughout the league. For the first time, the top 15 clubs will receive financial rewards based on their final standings, with substantial amounts allocated to the highest finishers.
