Dr. Tony Aubynn, a board member of Medeama Sporting Club and an Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association has expressed his concern regarding the prize money received for winning the Ghana Premier League.
The club was awarded three hundred thousand (300,000) Ghana Cedis as their reward for clinching the 2022/23 GPL title.
While acknowledging the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) support for clubs in various ways, Dr. Aubynn pointed out the limitations in providing more substantial financial rewards.
“I quite agree that after the test of going through the league, if your reward is three hundred thousand (300,000) Ghana Cedis, it becomes very worrying,” he told Joy News.
Dr. Aubynn further highlighted the positive changes brought about by the GFA, emphasizing their efforts in providing equipment such as boots and footballs to smaller teams.
“But you are right. You cannot give what you do not have. The Ghana Football Association is running many other activities. It is providing other support“
He commended the association for its dedication to supporting clubs beyond monetary rewards.
“In those days when smaller teams have to get boots, footballs and all those things. These days, the FA tries to provide some of these things.”
