Former Deputy Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member, Gifty Oware-Mensah, has been detained by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) in connection with an ongoing payroll fraud investigation.
Oware-Mensah was reportedly taken into custody on Friday, March 7, 2025, and has since been denied bail despite efforts to secure her release. Sources indicate that former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary John Boadu initially signed for her bail, but she was later moved from the NIB premises, and her current whereabouts remain unknown.
Her lawyers have been unable to obtain information about her detention, raising concerns about due process. According to her legal counsel, Nana Agyei-Baffour, Oware-Mensah received no prior invitation from the NIB before her arrest.
The Berry Ladies FC owner had recently returned to Ghana on Tuesday, March 5, 2025, after a holiday abroad following the 2024 elections.
Her detention follows the arrest of another former NSS official, Ohene Djan, who was reportedly apprehended in a dramatic operation at his residence. The payroll fraud investigation at the NSS remains ongoing, with authorities yet to disclose further details.
