Ghana Football Association (GFA) General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo has clarified why Nsoatreman FC was eligible to vote during the Association’s 31st Annual Congress, despite their demotion from the Premier League.
Speaking to Ghanasportspage.com, Addo explained that Nsoatreman remains a member of the GFA and had the right to participate in the congress because it is traditionally attended by all clubs that competed in the just-ended season. This includes teams relegated from the Premier League, as it is considered their final congress before officially becoming Division One clubs.
“Nsoatreman Football Club is still a member of the Ghana Football Association,” Addo said. “They wrote to the FA requesting to be removed from all competitions, especially the Premier League, after being charged by the Disciplinary Committee. But for this congress, they were qualified to attend as a Premier League side, just like the relegated clubs Accra Lions and Legon Cities.”
He further noted that Nsoatreman, Accra Lions, and Legon Cities will not attend next season’s congress as Premier League clubs. Instead, Accra Lions and Legon Cities will participate as Division One League sides, while Nsoatreman will compete in the lower leagues.
“The same rule applies to the Women’s Premier League and the Division One League. That’s why you also saw clubs like Faith Ladies, Kotoku Royals, and other relegated teams present,” Addo concluded.
