Aduana FC General Manager Takyi Arhin has issued a strong warning to anyone planning to challenge Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku, insisting that such a contest would be an “exercise in futility” if the incumbent decides to seek a third term.
Takyi Arhin has thrown his weight behind Okraku’s possible bid for another term and believes prospective challengers should reconsider their ambitions before entering the GFA presidential race.
The Aduana FC executive made his position clear while responding to the growing discussions about Okraku’s future at the GFA.
According to him, anyone who wishes to contest against the incumbent is free to do so, but he does not expect such a challenge to succeed.
“Anyone who wants to contest Kurt Okraku is welcome but I can assure you that it’ll be an exercise in futility,” Takyi Arhin stated.
The comment represents one of the strongest public declarations of support for Okraku as speculation continues over whether the GFA president will seek to extend his stay in office.
Takyi Arhin went further to declare that he would personally support Okraku if he decides to contest for a third term.
“If Kurt Okraku decides to contest, I’ll support his third term bid. I even want more people to join the race, so they’ll lose their votes,” he said.
His remarks effectively challenge potential opposition within Ghana football to come forward and test their popularity against Okraku at the polls.
Takyi Arhin also accused some individuals of remaining on the sidelines while waiting for Okraku’s administration to collapse before making their move.
“A lot of people are sitting on the fence waiting for Kurt Okraku to fail so that they jump in,” he said.
“I just want to tell them that if they’ve not joined us, they’ll sit on the fence till thy kingdom come,” he added.
The comments come at a difficult period for Ghana football, with the GFA administration facing renewed scrutiny following the Black Stars’ recent setbacks.
Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and has also endured a difficult beginning to the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars suffered defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in their opening two qualifying matches, increasing pressure on the football administration and intensifying calls for accountability.
Despite the criticism surrounding the national team, Takyi Arhin does not believe the performance of the Black Stars should automatically determine the fate of the GFA president.
He has argued that the responsibilities of the GFA should be separated from the performance of the national teams, while also pointing to the association’s support for clubs as part of the case for the current administration.
However, his “exercise in futility” comment is likely to fuel the political contest surrounding the next GFA elections.
The statement puts potential challengers on notice that Okraku’s supporters are prepared to defend his record and campaign for another mandate if he decides to run.
It also raises the stakes ahead of the election, particularly if several candidates emerge to challenge the incumbent.
For now, Okraku’s position on a third-term bid remains central to the debate, while Takyi Arhin has already made his own position unmistakable.
He believes any attempt to unseat Okraku would amount to an exercise in futility and has openly challenged those considering a presidential bid to enter the race.
The statement is therefore set to add further intensity to the already growing debate over who should lead Ghana football in the next GFA administration.
