The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after a meeting on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 has decided to retain Otto Addo as the head coach of the Black Stars, despite the team’s disappointing performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Otto Addo, who has come under intense scrutiny following Ghana’s failure to secure a place in the upcoming AFCON tournament, has been given the mandate to lead the team through the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which resume in March 2024.
The decision comes despite widespread public calls for his dismissal, with many fans and sports analysts advocating for a change in leadership to rejuvenate the team ahead of the World Cup qualifiers. However, the GFA’s Executive Council has expressed full support for Addo, backing him to turn the team’s fortunes around.
The Black Stars endured a challenging AFCON qualifying campaign, finishing at the bottom of Group F with just three points from six matches—three losses and three draws.
This marks the first time in two decades that Ghana has failed to qualify for the prestigious continental tournament, with Sudan and Angola advancing from the group instead.
