The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to make key decisions regarding the Black Stars’ technical support team following the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as head coach.

This forms part of a broader restructuring of the national team’s technical setup after Ghana successfully qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As part of the changes, former head coach Otto Addo has been relieved of his duties following disappointing friendly results against Austria and Germany in March. In addition, Winfried Schäfer has also been removed from his role as technical advisor and Director of Football at the GFA.

Attention has now shifted to the composition of the new backroom staff that will support Queiroz as he begins his tenure. According to GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, discussions are still ongoing as the Portuguese tactician works on shaping his technical team.

He explained in an interview that Queiroz has requested the addition of more deputies to strengthen the technical setup, although the current staff remains in place for now. No final verdict has been reached on who will stay or leave.

The existing technical team includes several assistants and specialists such as John Paintsil, Desmond Ofei, Kim Lars Björkegren, Kris Perquy, Alain Ravera, Fatawu Dauda, José Daniel Martínez Alfonso, Gregory De Grauwe, Carlos Lozano Romero, Abdul Rahman Alhassan, and Issah Amadou. However, their future roles are still under review.

Queiroz is expected to officially begin work next month. His first assignment will be a friendly against Mexico, followed by another warm-up match against Wales on 2 June.

Ghana will head into the 2026 FIFA World Cup—its fifth appearance—drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on 17 June before facing England and Croatia in subsequent group matches.
