Ghana coach Otto Addo concerned with conceding late-goals

Ghana’s Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has shown concern about his team’s consistently conceding late goals, which he thinks it’s due to lack of concentration.

The former Borussia Dortmund development gaffer’s Black Stars have let in goals in the final minutes of nearly every match, with the majority coming in the last 10 minutes.

Going into the Thursday’s tough 2025 Africa Cup of Nations game against Sudan, Addo shared his frustration over the pattern.

Ghana started its campaign with a loss to Angola and a draw with Niger, both marred by late goals that have left the team third in their group and in urgent need of a win.

“I can only speak about the games where I was the head coach. So, it’s difficult for me to take eight games…But you’re right; it’s a thing of concentration.” He noted the importance of players holding themselves and each other accountable, especially when defending during critical moments.

“They have to be ready themselves to defend every corner. Even if it’s in the last minute or last two minutes, to be responsible for each and everyone for his part and his position.”

The match against Sudan will kick off at 4 pm local time at the Accra Sports Stadium.
