Ghanaian defender Wahab Ackwei expressed his enthusiasm upon signing with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in the USL Championship, emphasizing the appeal of joining a well-organized team.

The official announcement of Ackwei’s signing sets the stage for his participation in the upcoming 2024 USL Championship season, pending approval from both the league and the federation.

Reflecting on the completion of the deal, Ackwei conveyed his eagerness to contribute to the club’s success, stating, “I’m thrilled to join this well-organized and amazing team.

Can’t wait to get started and hopefully achieve something wonderful with the fantastic fans. Ready to fight for the badge!”

The 27-year-old defender brings with him a noteworthy track record, having previously showcased his skills with Rio Grande Valley FC. Ackwei gained acclaim in the 2022 Championship All-League Second Team, a testament to his impactful 56 appearances and key role in Rio Grande Valley FC’s journey to the USL Championship Playoffs.

Having amassed a total of 72 championship appearances throughout his career, Ackwei demonstrates versatility that extends beyond his time with Rio Grande Valley FC.

His previous experiences include playing for New York Red Bulls II and Loudoun United FC, further highlighting the depth of his professional background.
