The 16th Annual WAFU B General Assembly has been held in the Togolese capital, Lome under the able Chairmanship of President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.

The event, which was well attended by the Seven Member countries, had CAF representatives and football legends from the zone in attendance.

President Simeon-Okraku chaired the Congress with all proposals approved by all seven-member countries of WAFU B.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) was represented by Ms. Sarah Mukuna, Director, Member Associations and Zonal Unions, who read a speech on behalf of President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe. CAF reaffirmed its commitment to continue to cooperate positively with WAFU B and provide the required support to the zone “since African football is developed in the zones” she stated.

The Guest of Honour was the Minister of Sports and Recreation of the Republic of Togo, Dr. Libi Bessi Kama-Gumedzoe.

The Togolese Minister reiterated the commitment of the President and government of Togo towards sports development and urged African Presidents to increase their investment in sports.

Former Captain and Ghana’s all-time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan, spoke for and on behalf of the Legends and expressed appreciation for the invitation to such a high governance gathering of the zone.

“Bringing us to such administrative governance meetings enable us, the former players, to appreciate better why and how key decisions are taken for the development of football. We are masters on the field of play, so we truly love the opportunity to learn these things at the other side of the game. Together with us, Legends we will build the game even better” Legend Asamoah Gyan opined.

Other Legends who attended the Congress included former Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor, Mercy Ekide, a former captain of the Super Falcons of Nigeria and Charles Kabore, former captain of Burkina Faso.

Key decisions taken at the Congress included an amendment to the WAFU B Statutes to add standing Committees. These include Referees Committee, Development and Technical Committee, Women’s Football Committee, Marketing and Media Committee, Finance Committee and Disciplinary and Appeals Committees.
