Former Ghana youth international Ibrahim Sadiq may be the latest player to be knocking on the door of a poor national team assignment after his latest milestone.
The 23-year-old has been in stunning form for BK Hacken during the 2023 season and has been one of Ghana’s best-performing players in Europe this campaign.
Against Aberdeen, the player reached his 20th goal of the season in 24 appearances across all competitions for the Swedish side. Sadiq scored a brace and helped Hacken secure a Europa League group stage spot for the very first time in the club’s history.
Since moving to Sweden in February 2022, the youngster has rediscovered his fine form and has been on a constant rise after his departure from Right to Dream.
The youngster featured in 19 games for the club in his first season scoring seven goals in that run and guiding them to the league title.
But it is the second season that has got his name on the people’s lips again and for the right reasons.
With his 20 goals this campaign, no Ghanaian has reached that tally across all competition and makes him the highest-scoring Ghanaian.
Sadiq opened his season in an incredible fashion, scoring seven goals in six games as Hacken lifted the Swedish Cup beating Mjallyby in the final, a game the forward scored twice in a 4-1 win.
While injuries have limited his league appearances this season, the fast winger has still managed five goals in 10 appearances in the Allsvenskan for his club, who are currently third on the league table with nine games still to go.
Playing for the first time in Europe, the former Nordsjaelland man has not been anywhere near shy.
He has racked up eight goals in the European qualifiers (Champions League and Europa League). He scored three goals in four matches in the Champions League qualifiers while he also netted five times in four games in the Europa League qualifiers as his side secured entrance into the group stage.
Sadiq has been waiting for a while now for a return to national assignment since his last one with the U-20 in 2019. For the youngster, who has been hammering on the Black Stars’ door for the past two years, the moment may finally be right.
There may only be a few people ahead of him right now given his numbers.
Even though he has not been mentioned much, Sadiq is going about his business and making sure he completes his part of the task while also waiting for a call.
