Ghanaian striker Jerry Afriyie made a striking impact in his league debut for CD Lugo, scoring two goals within a six-minute window in his very first start in the Spanish Primera Federación.
In just his second game with the club, the 18-year-old equalized for his side after Barakaldo C.F had opened the scoring in the third minute. His second goal, coming just six minutes later, put Lugo ahead 2-1.
Despite Afriyie’s impressive display, Barakaldo fought back in dramatic fashion. Victor Isuskiza pulled one goal back in the 70th minute, and Santiago Pablo netted the decisive winner just five minutes before full time, handing Lugo a 3-2 defeat.
Afriyie’s signing is seen as a major boost for a team struggling to avoid relegation, and his goal-scoring prowess has certainly caught the eye.
The African Games gold medalist is also expected to feature in Ghana’s squad for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar later this month.
