Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, has confirmed that the Black Stars are in discussions with Wales national football team to arrange an additional friendly ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The Black Stars are preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, set to take place this summer across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Head coach Otto Addo has already lined up warm-up matches against Austria on March 27 at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium, followed by Germany on March 30 in Stuttgart. Ghana is also scheduled to face Mexico in May, although the venue and date are yet to be confirmed by the Ghana Football Association.
Speaking before a Parliamentary Committee on February 26, Adams confirmed that negotiations with Wales are ongoing to secure a further friendly to bolster the Black Stars’ preparations.
Ghana has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia, opening their campaign against Panama on June 17, facing England on June 23, and closing the group stage against Croatia on June 27. After consecutive group-stage exits in recent tournaments, the four-time African champions are determined to make a stronger impact on football’s biggest stage.
The proposed friendly with Wales is seen as an important step in giving the Black Stars more competitive exposure ahead of the tournament, allowing the squad to fine-tune tactics and build cohesion. Fans and stakeholders are eagerly awaiting confirmation of the match as Ghana continues to finalize its pre-World Cup schedule.
