Asamoah Gyan calls for support for John Mahama

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has called on Ghanaians to rally behind the newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) government following a peaceful election.

The NDC secured a decisive victory in the 2024 elections, unseating the ruling New Patriotic Party. John Dramani Mahama has been declared the winner, marking his return to the presidency after eight years in opposition.

Sharing his thoughts on social media, Gyan emphasized the need for unity and urged citizens to support the incoming government. “You know, when there is an issue, I will share my thoughts. Let’s support the government. Any government that comes to power, let’s support them. When you go and buy things at GHC 50 and sell them at GHC 1000, the country will go through hardship,” he stated.

He further appealed to Ghanaians to set aside political affiliations and focus on nation-building. “Ghana has decided. Let’s put party politics aside, and if your party has won, focus on government. For us as citizens, we will also support,” Gyan added. “We also have to change our attitudes and support the new government. Let’s congratulate the new government, and that is my message.”

Before the election, Gyan distanced himself from the Bawumia manifesto team, choosing to focus on his philanthropic endeavors. He explained that it was not fair for him to be involved in partisan politics.

Asamoah Gyan remains a celebrated figure in Ghanaian football, holding the record as the nation’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances.
