Ghana international midfielder Stella Nyamekye has completed a loan move to Fort Lauderdale United FC from NWSL side NJ/NY Gotham FC ahead of the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League season. The transfer is subject to league and federation approval.

The 19-year-old, regarded as one of Ghana’s most exciting young prospects, arrives in Florida to strengthen Fort Lauderdale’s midfield as they prepare for a title push.

“We are very excited to have Stella with us on loan from Gotham,” said Fort Lauderdale’s Associate Head Coach Ali Rogers. “She adds a creative and dynamic piece to our attack, and her experience competing on both the professional and international stage will elevate our group.”

Nyamekye’s rise has been swift. She began her career with Dreamz Ladies in the Ghana Women’s Premier League, where she scored 31 goals in 41 appearances before sealing a high-profile switch to Gotham in December 2024. She made her NWSL debut in April 2025 and has since featured in two matches for the American club.

On the international stage, she made her Black Queens debut in 2023 at just 17 years old. At the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, she scored a crucial semifinal goal against Morocco and added an assist in the group stages to help Ghana secure a bronze medal. Nyamekye also captained Ghana’s U-20 side at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, where she contributed two goals and an assist.

Fort Lauderdale’s General Manager Aly Hassan described her as a “game-changing talent,” praising her creativity and technical qualities as vital assets for the team’s midfield.

Nyamekye is expected to play a pivotal role in Fort Lauderdale’s Super League campaign as they set their sights on challenging for the title.
