Veteran Ghanaian coach Abdul Karim Zito has thrown his full support behind Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, expressing confidence that the experienced Portuguese tactician is capable of guiding Ghana to a successful campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana are preparing for their fifth appearance at the global tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico, with high expectations but also lingering doubts due to recent inconsistent performances.
Despite those concerns, Zito believes Queiroz’s vast international experience gives Ghana a major advantage heading into the competition.
“I am confident Ghana now has a coach who is well-versed in the game and capable of leading the team successfully,” Zito said.
He further highlighted the coach’s influence since taking charge of the team, insisting that the players have responded positively to his leadership and tactical demands.
“Since his arrival, he has shown great maturity and leadership, and I believe the players have responded positively to him,” he added. “The boys seem happy working under him, and I strongly believe they will give their all for him.”
Zito, a former Asante Kotoko coach, also stressed that Queiroz’s experience at the highest level of international football could prove decisive for Ghana’s ambitions.
“I am confident Ghana now has a coach who is well-versed in the game and capable of leading the team successfully. His appointment is undoubtedly a huge boost for the Black Stars.”
Ghana head into the tournament still chasing a return to the knockout stages for the first time since their memorable 2010 campaign in South Africa, where they reached the quarter-finals — their best-ever World Cup performance.
Since then, the Black Stars have featured at the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022 editions, but have struggled to make a similar impact on the global stage.
With Queiroz now at the helm, there is renewed hope that the 2026 edition could mark a turning point for Ghanaian football on the world stage.
