Newly promoted Debibi United came from behind twice to hold Asante Kotoko to a 2-2 draw in their Ghana Premier League opener at the Golden City Park in Berekum.
Kotoko took control after 15 minutes when Dogo Yakubu broke through following a pass from Herbert Gyau before calmly placing his effort into the bottom corner.
The Porcupine Warriors maintained their 1-0 advantage into halftime, but Debibi United returned with greater determination and quickly changed the direction of the game.
Richard Owusu brought the home side level with a powerful free-kick that beat Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim.
Debibi continued to push forward and completed their comeback in the 73rd minute when Owusu struck again to put the newly promoted side 2-1 ahead.
Kotoko responded with pressure of their own and eventually found the equaliser through Gyau, who reacted fastest during a goalmouth scramble to fire the ball into the net.
The two sides settled for a point apiece, with Debibi United earning an impressive result against one of Ghana’s most successful clubs.
Kotoko will host Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium in their next league fixture, while Debibi United will travel to face Swedru All Blacks.
