Asante Kotoko have returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Karela United in their Ghana Premier League Matchday Five fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Isaac Opoku Agyemang scored the decisive goal inside the opening four minutes, giving the Porcupine Warriors an early lead in a closely contested encounter.
The victory marked Kotoko’s first league match since the departure of head coach Eric Tinkler, who left the club following their 2-0 home defeat to Aduana FC the previous weekend.
Kotoko entered the game seeking to recover from a difficult run that included a draw against FC Samartex and the defeat to Aduana FC.
The home side created further opportunities after taking the lead, with Eric Gbetta making a dangerous run down the left flank in the 13th minute before firing wide.
Karela United struggled to create clear scoring opportunities in the first half, although a corner shortly before the break tested Kotoko’s defence.
After the restart, the visitors pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Kotoko maintained their defensive discipline and prevented them from finding the net.
Abu Adams made an important tackle in the 54th minute to halt a Karela attack as Kotoko worked to protect their advantage.
The Porcupine Warriors made several substitutions during the second half to strengthen their performance and preserve the lead.
Karela United were unable to break through Kotoko’s defence, allowing the Kumasi-based side to secure all three points and keep a clean sheet.
The result provides Kotoko with a positive response following their disappointing defeat to Aduana FC, while Karela’s recent momentum was halted after their previous victory over Hearts of Oak.
