In a Week 33 showdown of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League, Asante Kotoko exhibited dominance as they triumphed over Real Tamale United (RTU) with a convincing 2-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex in Nalerigu.
The win marked a resilient resurgence for Kotoko, who had suffered a setback with a 1-0 defeat to Accra Great Olympics in the previous week.
Despite a goalless first half, Kotoko’s Peter Amidu Acquah broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, injecting momentum into the game. The lead was further extended in the 86th minute when Bernard Somuah found the back of the net, sealing the victory for Kotoko.
Noteworthy contributions came from key substitutions, including Michael Kyei Dwamena, Bernard Somuah, and Sherif Mohammed, who injected fresh energy and impetus into Kotoko’s gameplay.
Real Tamale United, positioned 18th with 31 points before the match, struggled to find their footing against Kotoko’s formidable display. In stark contrast, Kotoko, now boasting 46 points, ascended from 10th place, reaffirming their stature as a force to be reckoned with in the league.
Looking ahead, Real Tamale United will face Dreams FC in an outstanding fixture before their season finale showdown against Accra Great Olympics. Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko will set their sights on their next challenge as they prepare to host Bofoakwa Tano in a highly anticipated match at the Baba Yara Stadium.
