Ghana Premier League: Great Olympics RELEGATED despite 3-0 default win over RTU on final day

In a bizarre turn of events, Accra Great Olympics was awarded a 3-0 victory and three points in the Ghana Premier League Week 34 match against Real Tamale United, who failed to show up for their final match of the season.

The unusual scenario unfolded at the Accra Sports Stadium, where Accra Great Olympics arrived early, completed their warm-up, and waited for their opponents, but Real Tamale United did not appear.

The match officials were left with no choice but to award the victory to Accra Great Olympics after the allotted grace period for Real Tamale United’s arrival expired.

The decision came as a blow to Real Tamale United, who are already relegated and have been battling with player boycotts due to unpaid salaries. This latest development adds another chapter to their disastrous season.

Despite the awarded victory, Accra Great Olympics could not escape relegation and will join Bofoakwa Tano and Real Tamale United in the Division One League.

The team concluded the 2023/2024 season in 16th place with 44 points, while Real Tamale United finished in 18th place with 31 points after 34 games.
