Heart of Lions took a significant step in their battle for survival by stunning Dreams FC with a 2-1 victory on Sunday in the Ghana Premier League.
Bashir Hayford’s team rallied from a goal down to triumph over the “Still Believe” outfit at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu. This first away victory of the season lifts the Lions out of the relegation zone for the first time this campaign.
Dreams FC opened the scoring when Joseph Esso netted his first goal for the club after 17 minutes. However, defender Ebenezer Abban equalized just before half-time with a successfully converted penalty kick. Forward Mustapha Yakubu then secured the win for Lions two minutes into the second half, scoring his sixth goal of the season.
With this victory, the visitors are now level on points with Dreams FC and sit two points above the relegation zone, with 35 points from 30 matches. Four games remain in the season.
Heart of Lions will face league leaders FC Samartex 1996 in their next match, while Dreams FC will host Legon Cities FC on Wednesday to clear one of their three games in hand.
