In a thrilling finale to the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season, Hearts of Oak have managed to avoid relegation with a 3-2 win over Bechem United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on Sunday.
The Phobians, who had no margin for error, needed a win to secure their spot in the top flight for another season. And they did just that, coming from behind twice to take all three points.
Emmanuel Owusu put Bechem United ahead in the 29th minute, but Hearts of Oak captain Kofi Agbesimah equalized just three minutes later.
Bismarck Edjeodji restored the lead for the home side at the hour mark, but substitute Kelvin Osei Assibey levelled the score again in the 71st minute.
The winner came from Yaw Amankwa Baafi, whose goal secured Hearts of Oak’s place in the Ghana Premier League for another season.
The Phobians finished 14th on the table with 45 points from 34 games, while Bechem United finished 9th with 48 points.
