Samartex 1996 returned to winning ways with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Bechem United at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena on Sunday, breathing life into their hopes of finishing the Ghana Premier League season on a high.
After a challenging title-defending campaign, the reigning champions displayed glimpses of their past brilliance in their penultimate home fixture of the season.
Baba Musa opened the scoring in the 15th minute, giving Samartex an early advantage with a composed finish. The hosts maintained their lead for most of the match, until Bechem United equalized late through Baba Abadulai, who struck in the 86th minute to seemingly earn the visitors a point.
However, Samartex had the final say, netting a dramatic stoppage-time winner in the 103rd minute—13 minutes after regular time had expired—to snatch all three points and lift the spirits of the Samreboi faithful.
With the win, Samartex stay 7th on the table, while Bechem United drop to 8th, just behind them. Up next, Samartex travel to face Nations FC, while Bechem will host Basake Holy Stars in their next league encounter.
