Bibiani Gold Stars strengthened their grip on the top spot in the Ghana Premier League with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Medeama at Dun’s Park on Sunday.
In a match marked by missed opportunities and intense drama, the match-winning moment came deep into stoppage time. Substitute Samuel Attah Kumi converted a 97th-minute penalty, securing all three points for the Miners, after Vincent Atingah had earlier missed a penalty in the 50th minute.
Medeama enjoyed slightly more possession (52%), but failed to register a single shot on target, while Gold Stars tested the Medeama goalkeeper twice from 11 attempts. The home side also had the edge in set-pieces, winning seven corners to Medeama’s six, demonstrating their persistent attacking efforts.
The win keeps Gold Stars two points ahead at the top of the league, widening the gap to six points over Asante Kotoko and 11 points over Hearts of Oak, who trail in second and third, respectively.
Gold Stars remain unbeaten at home this season and will next travel to face Vision FC. Medeama, now on a two-match losing streak, will seek to bounce back when they take on Young Apostles in their next fixture.
