Wilson Arthur, the chairman of the FA Cup Committee, has proposed that the Ghana national football team, the Black Stars, strengthen its squad by incorporating both local and European players.
The Black Stars have faced challenges recently, struggling to make a significant impact in international tournaments. Their latest setback came with a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the second leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, following a goalless draw in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In discussing strategies for revitalizing the senior national team, Arthur emphasized the importance of blending talent from both local and international arenas.
“There are players in the Ghana Premier League, as well as those in the Tanzanian and Rwandan leagues, who would cherish the opportunity to compete on the African stage,” he stated in an interview with Citi Sports. “Those are the players I’m suggesting we should consider for the Black Stars, alongside exceptionally talented players from Europe.”
The Black Stars will be looking to redeem themselves in their upcoming matches against Angola and Niger next month as they complete their AFCON qualifying campaign.
