Referee Banabas Amenyo, has been hit with a whooping 12-match day ban by the Match Review Panel of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after being found culpable of wrong decision in a premier league match involving Medeama Sporting Club and Accra Lions Football Club.
The GFA announced on Thursday, decisions of the Match Review Committee on three complaints filed at the Committee by premier league side Medeama SC.
According to the decision of the Match Review Panel as published by the GFA on Thursday, referee Banabas Amenyo, who was the Assistant Referee 2 in the GPL match day 16 between Medeams SC and Accra Lions, wrongfully ruled out Medeama SC goal in the 20th minute of the game (which was scored by Kwasi Donsu), and that changed the results of the game. Medeama SC lost the game by a lone goal at the Tarkwa Akoon Park.
In it’s ruling which has been published by the GFA, the match Review Panel ruled:
“Since the decision of the offside was taken by the Assistant Referee 2, (Banabas Amenyo) which changed the result of the match, he is suspended for twelve (12) match days, effective the day of publication”.
The Panel has also recommended that Banabas Amenyo be demoted to the Lower Division (Division One) for further training since his “understanding of the Offside Law is questionable”.
“The panel also recommend that the Assistant Referee 2 Banabas Amenyo’s understanding of the Offside Law is questionable. The Assistant Referee must be given further training after serving his suspension at the lower-level division”, the ruling ordered.
