1. Ga Mantse derby at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium

Accra-based clubs Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak will commence Week 16 of the Ghana Premier League with a feisty derby at the Baba Yara Stadium. Oly Dade has the bragging rights as it’s been 6 years since Hearts of Oak defeated Great Olympics in the Ghana Premier League. Great Olympics has won 4 and drawn 2 in their last 6 league games against Phobia.
Expect the Ga Mantse derby to live up to its billing as it has been in the last three seasons.

2. Medeama SC and Dreams FC resumes GPL commitment

Medeama SC and Dreams are back after missing their last 4 Premier League games due to inter-club commitments. Both teams have 4 games each in hand as Dreams hosts Accra Lions and Medeama entertains Bibiani Gold Stars in Week 16. Medeama and Dreams have been exciting in their respective campaigns in Africa after 4 Weeks of intense action.

3. Bashir Hayford makes his coaching debut for Heart of Lions at Dawu

Heart of Lions appointed Bashir Hayford on Thursday and he will take his winless team to Dawu at the Theatre of Dreams to face the in-form Legon Cities. Heart of Lions are 7 points away from safety and a win for the Kpando Club will be a huge one for Bashir Hayford even though they will play against Legon Cities. Zero wins for Heart of Lions in 13 matches makes survival an uphill task for the experienced Bashir Hayford.

4. Another Bono Derby in Nsoatre

Nsoatreman will host Aduana Stars in crunch Bono Derby. Bono Derbies are competitive and unpredictable as we have been seeing in recent seasons.

Maxwell Konadu’s Nsoatreman have lost back-to-back games which has taken them to 5th position against Karela and Accra Lions. Aduana Stars on the other hand still occupies the first slot on the log after winning 1-0 against Bechem United in Week 15. A feisty contest is expected in Naoatre at the Nana Koramansah Park.

5. Asante Kotoko welcomes beleaguered Real Tamale United

RTU is bleeding, RTU needs a huge boost, RTU needs results. The Tamale-based club is second from bottom with 14 points. They have scored 16 and conceded 26 goals. They have the worst defence in the league.

Asante Kotoko on the other hand winning run was halted by Great Olympics last week after a goalless draw at the Baba Yara. Kotoko have been in wonderful form as they have secured 13 points from a possible 15 in their last 5 games. Richmond Lamptey and Steve Mukwala will be two key players that RTU must watch out for.

6. Tano Bofoakwa back to Bono Region

Bofoakwa has been away from Bono Region in their last two games. They played Samartex in the Ashanti Region and Legon Cities in the Eastern Region and are back in their favourite Region. Bofoakwa Tano will travel to Berekum to face Berekum Chelsea. Christopher Ennin’s Chelsea have lost just one game in last 8 having recorded 6 wins and one draw. Bofoakwa Tano has to play above their normal standard to even secure a draw. Stephen Amankonah is one of the best players in the Ghana Premier League and marking him out must be Bofoakwa’s prime target.

7. Samartex is back to their Heaven

Nsenkyire Park is Samartex’s Heaven. Life at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex is so beautiful and refreshing for Nurudeen Amadu’s Samartex. The Samreboi-based club has won every game they have played at home in the 2023-24 Premier League season. 7 home wins is a huge achievement and Samrtex will host the unpredictable Karela United who in their last 5 games have beaten Aduana Stars and Naoatreman away from home.

Will Karela do the unthinkable?
