Ghana Premier League Week 22: 6 interesting things to look out for as Kotoko face Aduana Stars in tricky clash

  1. Prosper Nartey Ogum is under immense pressure

There is no doubt that Prosper Ogum is under pressure as Fabolous fans booed the team and the coach after the 2-3 defeat to Accra Lions.

Asante Kotoko has lost 5 of their last 6 games and it is a difficult moment for the head coach, the playing body and the Fabulous fans as well. Asante Kotoko was just 3 points behind the table toppers Samartex at the end of the first round but is now 6 points behind the Timber Giants.

A trip to Dormaa Ahenkro has always been a tough one and Kotoko will need to quadruple their performance before winning at Aduana Stars. The Ogya Boys haven’t been that great but are second in the table trailing 5 points with a game in hand. Another defeat will surely be welcomed with many bad reactions by Asante Kotoko fans.

  1. Oly Dade must watch out for Accra Lions’ Blessing Dankwah

He is only 17 and tearing the GPL defence apart. A brace against Berekum Chelsea in Sogakope in the 5-0 thrashing was the day the wonder boy announced his presence in GPL.

At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Wednesday night, Blessing Dankwah scored twice against the out-of-form Asante Kotoko. He is a forward who has a lot to learn but he is undoubtedly one of the most promising talents in the country. It is too early to use big adjectives to describe him but he has a bright future.

Accra Great Olympics drew a disappointing 0-0 against Karela in midweek after losing 3-0 in Bibiani. They must be careful with Blessing who has scored 4 goals in his first 3 GPL appearances.

  1. Will Phobia finally win at the Baba Yara

Hearts of Oak has played 3 games so far at the Baba Yara Stadium and has not picked a single win. A 3-2 defeat against Asante Kotoko, a 0-0 draw with Olympics and a 2-2 draw against Dreams are the scores the Accra Giants have recorded.

It was a fierce encounter in the 2-2 draw against Dreams with everything pointing to the fact that Hearts of Oak has improved in many areas under Ouattara.

Hearts of Oak will hope that Baba Yara will smile at them on Monday night as it is a must-win game for them after drawing back-to-back against Tano Bofoakwa and Dreams FC.

  1. A huge test for Maxwell Konadu in his quest to revive Nsoatreman

Three straight defeats for Nsoatreman is a difficult one to take by the Nsoatreman supporters. They have begun the second round on a horrible note and Maxwell Kondu has a huge task now to motivate the players so that they can bounce back to winning ways. On Sunday, Nsoatreman will welcome Medeama SC to Nana Kronmansah Park in Nsoatre.

Medeama SC is still a difficult side to beat as they remain one of the best teams in the league. Nsoatreman needs a win to get closer to the top 4. Positioned at 6th before Week 22 games, Maxwell Konadu has a huge job to do.

  1. Bibiani Gold Stars are back to their haven

Is there any team that has been more than scintillating at home in their last 4 games like Bibiani Gold Stars? Frimpong Manso’s charges have shown their opponents that Bibiani is not a nice place for anyone. Since taking over from Micheal Osei, Frimpong Manso has won all 4 games at Dun’s Park.

Bibiani Gold Stars have made their opponents look ordinary in those games. 13 goals scored with just 1 conceded at Dun’s Park under Frimpong Manso. Tano Bofoakwa won their first game since Week 9 after beating Heart of Lions 1-0 in midweek. They face probably their biggest game of the season because, at Dun’s Park, teams are beaten heavily under Frimpong Manso.

  1. Karela United has the opportunity to move away from the relegation zone

Playing against RTU at the moment is probably the easiest job in the league as they are mentally broken. RTU is enduring one of the worst campaigns in their GPL history as they remain rooted at the bottom of the table. Players have not been paid for 5 months, the coach has not been paid for almost a year, and there is no money to fuel their bus for games.

This is not funny and the club doesn’t deserve this difficulty. Karela United in their quest to avoid relegation must take the opportunity to win the 3 points.

Abubakar Damba has worked magic since taking over as he has beaten Asante Kotoko on two occasions. On Sunday at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex, Karela United must fight hard and beat the beleaguered RTU.
