Ghana Premier League Week 26 Preview: Hearts of Oak vs Karela United

Seeking to claim their first Ghana Premier League victory in three matches, Hearts of Oak host Karela United on  matchday-26 on Saturday April 13, 2024.

The Phobians are without a win in three games, following defeats at Samartex and Medeama, sandwiched by a home defeat to Bibiani Gold Stars.

They  have also recorded 1 draw and 1 defeat spanning over their last five matches – dropping down to 11th with 32 accumulated points.

The Accra giants have managed to record 20 points at home in this campaign after 12 games scoring 14 and conceding 8 league goals – the third lowest in the league so far.

Hearts of Oak heads into the game with just two losses in all their home league games played this season.

Despite their nail-biting 3-2 defeat at Gold Stars, an improved Karela United still lie 14th  on the table, having having recorded 2 defeats, 2 wins and 1 draw in their last 5 outings.

Karela United are the third club with the lowest number of points accumulated in an away fixture, scoring 9 and conceding 20 league goals.

They head into the game with two straight defeats in their away encounters in this campaign.

It’s a battle between the third weakest home side and the third weakest away side in the league this season after 25 around of matches.

Hearts of Oak have played Karela United three times at home in the league since 2020/21 season with all ending in a draw.

In the 2020/21 season, Hearts of Oak drew goalless with Karela United, drawing 1-1 in the 2021/22 season before recording another draw in the 2022/23 season.

Youngster Hamza Issah will hope to find his scoring boot after going barren in their last two matches. He has rattled in 8 goals so far for the Pride and Passion.

Hearts of Oak stars Linda Mtange, Glid Otanga, Salim Adams, Kofi Agbesimah, Thomas Winimi, Oppong Afrane, Salifu Ibrahim, Yaw Baafi and Micheal Ampadu are all available for the clash.

Karela United will be without suspended Samuel Atta Kumi. The striker is serving a ban following his red card against Gold Stars on Wednesday.

But the Northern-based team will rely on the likes of Solomon Aboagye, Rashid Alhassan, Mohammed Asigre, Humid Dafie, Umar Faruk, Giyasu Ibrahim, Abdul Latif, Abdul-Raman Yaya and Mohammed Awal.
