Medeama SC could end the 2023-24 Ghana Premier League season in second position if they account for Karela Unitedand other results go their way on Sunday.

The Mauve and Yellow failed to defend their Premier League title after losing it to Western regional rivals FC Samartex 1996.

However, they could grab a consolation by placing second if they beat Karela United at the Akoon Community park in Tarkwa on Sunday June 16, 2024.

Karela United’s survival prospects rest on this crunch game as anything apart from a win could see them join Bofoakwa Tano and Real Tamale United as relegated Premier League sides.

The visitors, who are yet to score a goal at the Akoon park, have an arduous task of rewriting the script by beating the dethroned champions infront of their home fans.

Medeama SC are currently 6th on the league table with 49 points after 33 matches, having won 3 and suffered 2 defeats in their last 5 encounters.

The Mauve and Yellow have managed to accumulate 34 points at home, scoring 15 and conceding 5.

They are among the top 10 best home performers in this campaign.

The defending champions head into this fixture with a defeat in their last home league game against Kpando Heart of Lions.

Medeama SC have conceded the least number of goals in this campaign (25).

Karela United after 33 matches are 13th on the league table with 43 points, having won 3 and suffered 2 defeats.

Karela United are the 4th underperforming side this season following 2 wins, 3 draws and 11 defeats in 16 appearances, scoring 13 and conceding 28 goals.

The Tamale based are the second most conceded side in this campaign (42).

Medeama SC have played Karela United three times at home in the league since 2020/21 season with Medeama SC winning all.

In the 2020/21 season, Medeama SC beat Karela United 1-0, won 2-0 in the 2021/22 season before recording a 1-0 win in the 2022/23 season.

Karela United are yet to score against Medeama SC in an away fixture since 2020/21.

Medeama SC goes into the game with quality players like, Kamaradini Mamudu, Diawisie Taylor, Manuel Mantey, Kofi Asmah, Fatawu Sulemana, Bernardinho Tetteh, Michael Enu, Godknows Dzakpasu, Nurudeen Abdulai, Denis Adoma, Emmanuel Cudjoe, Kelvin Nkrumah, Derrick Fordjour and Hamidu Abdul Fatawu.

Karela United can count on Emmanuel Anaful, Maxwell Agyemang, Giyasu Ibrahim, Fatawu Mohammed, Maxwell Arthur, George Amonoo, Abdul Latif, Samuel Attah Kumi, Jibril Nurudeen, Welbeck Takyi, Abdul-Raman Yaya, Hafiz Abdulai, Humid Dafie, Umar Faruk and Solomon Aboagye, who could all available for selection on Sunday.
