Young Apostles kept their hopes of staying in the Ghana Premier League alive with an impressive 3-1 victory over title challengers Heart of Lions at the Wenchi Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The win pushed Young Apostles to 40 points, putting them just one victory away from securing safety, with two crucial games left in the season.
The home side started the match with high intensity and quickly took control. Samuel Prempeh opened the scoring in the 10th minute, setting the tone for a dominant early display. Francis Sakitey added a second just six minutes later, and by the 19th minute, Huseine Issah had made it 3-0, completing a devastating opening spell that left Heart of Lions stunned.
Although Seedorf Asante pulled a goal back for the visitors before halftime, it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback. Young Apostles remained solid at the back in the second half, preventing any further damage and holding on for a vital three points.
The defeat is a major blow for Heart of Lions in the title race, as they now trail league leaders Nations FC by six points with only two matches remaining.
Looking ahead, Young Apostles will take on Karela United and Bechem United in their final two matches as they fight to avoid relegation. Heart of Lions must now win both of their remaining fixtures against Bechem United and Nations FC to have any chance of staying in the title race.
