Ghana defeated 1-0 in their opening Group L match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making history as the African nation with the most World Cup victories.
The win was Ghana’s sixth FIFA World Cup victory in just 16 matches, moving them ahead of , who also have six wins but required 21 matches to achieve that total.
After a difficult first half, Ghana improved significantly following the introduction of Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Brandon Thomas-Asante, whose energy and creativity helped the Black Stars take control of the game and secure the winning goal.
The victory was also a winning start for head coach at the World Cup and earned Ghana three valuable points in their quest to reach the knockout stages.
