Former Black Stars defender Hans Adu Sarpei has shared his assessment of Ghana’s performances during the March international friendlies against Austria and Germany, highlighting both concern and cautious optimism.

Ghana endured a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria, coached by Ralf Rangnick, before putting up a stronger showing in a narrow 2-1 loss to Germany, where they conceded a late winner.

Sarpei admitted disappointment over the manner in which the Black Stars allowed the game slip against Germany, especially after fighting back to level the score.

“Germany are a very good team, so losing 2-1 is not necessarily a bad result. However, when you are level going into the final minute, you need to fight to at least secure that one point,” he said.

Despite the defeat, the former defender praised the team’s response following the humiliating loss to Austria, noting clear improvement in performance.

“After the 5-1 defeat to Austria, the response we showed against Germany was encouraging. We played much better, but there is still room for improvement,” he added.

The two results ultimately led to the dismissal of Otto Addo as head coach, leaving the Black Stars without a manager with just 70 days to the start of the World Cup, intensifying concerns over the team’s preparation.
