In a groundbreaking move for Ghanaian beach soccer, Alexander Adjei, the prolific striker and captain of Sea Sharks Beach Soccer Club, has signed with Barcelona Beach Soccer Club in Spain—becoming the first Ghanaian beach soccer player in history to secure an international professional contract.

Adjei, a native of the coastal town of Teshie, is widely celebrated as one of Africa’s top beach soccer talents. His remarkable goal-scoring prowess has earned him the title of Africa Beach Soccer AFCON Goal King on two occasions—scoring 17 goals at the 2015 tournament in Seychelles and 11 goals at the 2024 edition in Egypt, where Ghana came agonizingly close to qualifying for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

Renowned for his power, speed, and clinical finishing, Adjei has been a central figure in both Ghana’s domestic beach soccer scene and the national team, the Black Sharks. His leadership and consistency have made him a symbol of excellence in the sport.

Barcelona Beach Soccer’s Brazilian head coach, Leo Braga, confirmed Adjei’s signing ahead of the upcoming Spanish beach soccer season, expressing high expectations for the Ghanaian forward. “This is a very exciting moment for the club and for Alex. We’ve been following his development for some time and believe he will add a new dimension to our attack,” Braga stated.

Veteran beach soccer advocate and pioneer, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, praised the move, calling Adjei a “beacon of hope” for aspiring players in Ghana and across Africa. “This is a major breakthrough for beach soccer in Ghana. It proves that with talent and determination, our players can reach the global stage,” he said.

Speaking after the official announcement, an emotional Adjei shared his pride and gratitude. “This is a dream come true. I’ve worked hard for this moment, and I’m honoured to represent Ghana on the international beach soccer stage.”

Adjei’s historic signing is being celebrated as a turning point for the sport in Ghana, sparking hope for increased global opportunities and recognition for African beach soccer talents.
