Ghana Premier League stars Benjamin Asare, Razak Simpson, and Kwame Opoku have all received call-ups to the Black Stars for the upcoming Unity Cup set to take place in London later this month.
The trio departed Ghana on Friday night to join the national team ahead of the maiden edition of the four-nation tournament.
Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who made his senior debut during Ghana’s back-to-back wins in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March, continues to cement his place in the national team setup. He left for London after playing a key role in Hearts’ 3-1 league victory earlier in the week.
Nations FC defender Razak Simpson, whose side currently tops the Ghana Premier League table, will be unavailable for their crucial clash against defending champions Samartex this weekend due to his national team duty.
Also missing domestic league action is Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Opoku, who has been instrumental in the second round of the season. He will sit out Kotoko’s match against Bibiani GoldStars as he links up with the Black Stars.
Ghana will open their Unity Cup campaign with a highly anticipated clash against Nigeria on May 28 at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium. The loser of that tie will play in the third-place playoff, while the winner advances to the final on May 31 against either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago.
The Black Stars are scheduled to officially open camp on Sunday, May 25. The Unity Cup matches form part of Ghana’s preparations for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Mali in September.
