The 21-year-old Dutch-born Ghanaian central defender Jonas Jensen-Abbew, has extended his current contract with Danish side FC Nordsjælland for the next 3 seasons.
After a successful loan spell at HB Køge in the first half of last season, where the young central defender got a lot of playing time in the second-tier Danish league, he returned to FC Nordsjælland in January and has continued his good development here in Farum throughout the spring.
Jonas “AJ” Jensen-Abbew was also part of the Superliga team’s recent training camp in Austria, which included a starting place against Olympiacos F.C., and now the 21-year-old central defender can look forward to the start of the season in the 3F Superliga with the contract extension in place.
Jan Laursen, sports director the club, was pleased with the player’s new deal: It has been an important priority for us to extend the collaboration with Jonas, and we are very pleased that this has now succeeded. He has taken big steps in his development in the past year and did very well during his loan stay at HB Køge, where he quickly proved to be a profile in the ranks, and he has also shown in the start of the new season that he has the right mindset to constantly take positive steps in his development.”
In addition, “AJ” is a player who, despite his young age, has strong leadership in him and always gives a lot of himself both on and off the field. We are pleased that we can now look even further ahead together and can continue to follow his development as a player and human being here at the club.
“It is no secret that his positive development has also attracted attention among other clubs both at home and abroad, and therefore it is extra gratifying that his focus has been to continue with us.
Jensen-Abbew, on the other hand, shared his excitement after signing the new contract: “It’s really great to sign a new contract with FC Nordsjælland. It’s something I’ve been hoping will happen for a long time, so the fact that it’s happening now, it’s really nice.
“I have played at the club for many years now, so I feel very much at home at FC Nordsjælland. I feel so at home here that I couldn’t really see myself playing anywhere else like it is right now, so it’s really nice that I’ve extended my contract with FC Nordsjælland.
“I hope that the next three years will offer a lot of playing time and many great experiences. In addition, I hope that we can continue to fight for the fun places in the Superliga, and then I look forward to playing European football with FC Nordsjælland this year and hopefully also the next few years.
