Former Asante Kotoko star, Daniel Nii Adjei has stated that the clubs in the Ghana Premier League don’t take CAF Competitions seriously when they are given the chance to compete in them.
In recent years, Ghanaian clubs have performed poorly in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation cups. This season, Kotoko were knocked out by RC Kadiogo and Hearts of Oak look set to follow after losing 3-0 in the CAF Confederation Cup first leg to Real Bamako.
Adjei believes that there is less dedication from clubs.
“The CAF competitions are not like playing in the normal league.
“Me I know on our local scene we take everything as a joke even when we have not finished, we start celebrating that we’ve won.
“Me I knew it will happen because going away to win 1-0 and when you come home you don’t prepare well and you start to jubilate, the one coming is serious because he is already down.
“And then CAF [competitions] we don’t win by saying I’ve won away, no, you have to finish it.
“I will say in Ghana we are always jubilating without playing it.
“We always use our mouth to beat people but football is not like so me I wasn’t surprised Kotoko went.” Daniel Nii Adjei told Radio Gold Talk Sport.
Nii has now ventured into coaching after a fairly successful playing career.
