Ghana defender Alexander Djiku will work under Jose Mourinho next season after the Portuguese manager was appointed head coach of Fenerbahce.
The 29-year-old Djiku joins a select list of Ghanaian footballers, including Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari, who have played under Mourinho.
Fenerbahce unveiled Mourinho on Sunday, with thousands of fans gathering at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium to welcome the two-time UEFA Champions League-winning manager. Mourinho’s last managerial position was with AS Roma, where he led the team to victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Mourinho aims to restore Fenerbahce to the top of Turkish football after the club lost the league title to rivals Galatasaray last season. Djiku, who joined Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023 from Ligue 1 side Racing Strasbourg, has been a crucial player for the team.
He made 36 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
Currently, Djiku is with the Ghana national team preparing for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR).
