Ghanaian defender Daniel Asiedu has completed a move to Norwegian second-tier club Ranheim Fotball after leaving Swiss giants FC Basel.
The 21-year-old centre-back has signed a short-term contract with Ranheim until the end of the season, with the club holding an option to extend the deal based on his performances.
Ranheim sporting director Kåre Ingebrigtsen said Asiedu matches the profile the club had been searching for, highlighting his physical strength and defensive qualities.
“We have been looking for some very specific qualities. We wanted physical robustness, someone who loves to defend his own box, and preferably a left-footed centre-back. Daniel hits the nail on the head on that profile.”
Asiedu had been training with Ranheim since August after his contract with Basel expired. During his time in Switzerland, the defender impressed at youth level and also trained with Basel’s senior team.
Ingebrigtsen praised the Ghanaian’s potential and believes he can develop further at the club.
“Daniel is a real powerhouse at almost two meters, and we see great untapped potential in him. The fact that he has been here for a long time has given us the opportunity to evaluate him closely in everyday life. His characteristics suit us perfectly.”
The Ranheim director added that the agreement gives Asiedu an opportunity to prove himself in competitive matches.
“We have signed a contract until the end of the year, with an option to extend if the autumn meets expectations. Now Daniel will have the opportunity to show himself in a match situation, and we look forward to following his development closely.”
Asiedu is expected to make his Ranheim debut against Egersund on Friday as he begins a new chapter in his career.
