Ghanaian defender Issahaku Yakubu Al-Ahli Tripoli from National Bank of Egypt SC in a deal reportedly worth USD 600,000.
The transfer was finalised in the closing hours of the Libyan winter window on Friday, with both clubs agreeing to buy out the remainder of the 31-year-old’s contract, which was set to run until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Yakubu leaves National Bank after an accomplished four-and-a-half-year stint in Cairo. He initially joined the club in September 2021 from Wadi Degla SC, where he had impressed with 82 appearances, two goals, and 12 assists.
During his time at National Bank, the versatile left-sided player became a pivotal figure, making 143 appearances, scoring three goals, and providing 20 assists. This season alone, he has featured in 14 league matches across all competitions, netting three times while helping the Cairo-based club climb to ninth in the table with 21 points from 15 games.
Comfortable at left-back but also capable of pushing forward on the wing, Yakubu adds both experience and attacking impetus to Al-Ahli Tripoli’s squad. The Libyan side have been active in the transfer market, also securing the signings of Blati Touré and Mustafa Shakshak from the Egyptian league.
Before his move to Egypt, Yakubu gained valuable European experience with Lierse S.K. and GS Ergotelis, further bolstering a career that spans multiple top-flight leagues.
