Walsall cruised to a dominant 4-0 win over Colchester United in their League Two Round 8 encounter at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.
Heading into the match, the teams were evenly matched in their past meetings, with both Walsall and Colchester having six wins each and nine draws between them.
Despite Colchester controlling much of the possession, Walsall took command in front of a crowd of 5,140. Jamie Jellis broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, finishing a well-timed pass from Taylor Allen to give Walsall the lead.
In the 71st minute, veteran winger Albert Adomah came off the bench and made an immediate impact. “He doubled Walsall’s lead in the 79th minute, finishing off a brilliant team move,” noted Walsall’s manager.
The victory was sealed by Jack Earing, who scored twice late in the game. He netted in the 89th minute and then added another in stoppage time, finishing calmly after being set up by Nathan Lowe. Colchester, despite managing nine shots, failed to create any clear chances.
Walsall’s confident display leaves them in good spirits as they prepare for their next match against Fleetwood on October 1st.
