Ghanaian forward Brandon Thomas-Asante showcased his skill on Saturday, contributing an assist for West Bromich Albion as they secured a noteworthy 2-0 victory against Ipswich Town FC in the English Championship.
The Hawthorns witnessed an impressive performance as Albion sealed the win with goals from Darnell Furlong and Grady Diangana, combined with a solid defensive display that resulted in a clean sheet.
This triumph elevated Carlos Corberán’s team to the fifth position in the Sky Bet Championship, positioned two points above the seventh-placed Cardiff, whom they are scheduled to face this Tuesday.
Ahead of this pivotal match, Corberán made a strategic change to his starting XI, bringing in Alex Mowatt for Nathaniel Chalobah. The return of John Swift and Josh Maja, who resumed training during the international break, provided additional depth to the squad.
Albion took charge early in the game, with Furlong’s header from Matty Phillips’ corner finding the net within the first five minutes, leaving Ipswich goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky unable to intervene.
Brandon Thomas-Asante continued to be a force, testing Hladky with a formidable strike that the Ipswich goalkeeper managed to parry away.
Despite Ipswich’s attempts to mount a comeback, with Jack Taylor and Wes Burns missing opportunities, Albion held their ground defensively. Jed Wallace’s attempt to connect with Conor Townsend on a counter-attack remained the only significant chance before halftime.
Returning with determination after the break, Albion swiftly increased their lead. A well-executed break involving Townsend, Wallace, and Thomas-Asante set up Diangana, who skillfully netted his third goal of the season via the post.
Although Phillips had an opportunity to score a third goal, the ball struck an unfortunate part of his foot, denying him the chance. Ultimately, it didn’t impact the outcome as Albion secured a comfortable victory, handing second-placed Ipswich their first away defeat of the season and becoming the first team to prevent them from scoring in the current campaign.
