Ghanaian forward Ibrahim Sadiq scored his first goal of the season to lead AZ Alkmaar to a 1-0 win over Almere City FC in the Dutch Eredivisie on Saturday evening.
At Yanmar Stadion, AZ Alkmaar showcased a strong performance with superior possession and more shots on target. Sadiq struck early in the 4th minute, netting a right-footed shot from the center of the box after a rapid counterattack.
Although Sadiq was substituted by Dutch-born Ghanaian forward Ernest Poku in the 57th minute, his goal remained the match’s only score.
The game was notably affected by disciplinary issues. AZ Alkmaar’s Maxim Dekker was sent off in the 18th minute, and Almere City FC faced a double setback with Baptiste Guillaume and Ricardo Visus both receiving red cards in the 34th and 79th minutes, respectively.
AZ Alkmaar’s next fixture is against NEC Nijmegen on August 17th.
