Kwadwo Opoku ‘Mahala,’ has made a move to CF Montréal on the opening day of the summer transfer window for the 2023 Major League Soccer season.
The Ghanaian winger, previously with Los Angeles FC (LAFC), has been traded to Montréal in a surprising announcement made by LAFC.
The deal involves $1.75 million in general allocation money (GAM), specifically $1,650,000 in 2023 GAM and $100,000 in 2024 GAM, according to LAFC.
Opoku, a former star of the Ghana U-17 and U-20 teams, joins Montréal after his MLS Cup triumph with LAFC in 2022.
During his time with the Californian club, the 21-year-old Ghanaian attacker played 60 games, starting in 35 of them, accumulating 3,254 minutes on the field.
He contributed nine goals and seven assists to the team’s performance. Notably, he made appearances in four MLS Cup playoff games, scoring in LAFC’s 3-0 victory over Austin FC in the Western Conference final last October.
Before making the move to North America, Opoku showcased his talent at the Attram De Visser Soccer Academy in Ghana, scoring 29 goals in 64 games.
