Ghanaian striker Kwaku Karikari scored an important goal as FK Zeleznicar Pancevo shocked league leaders Partizan Belgrade in the Serbian Superliga over the weekend.
Partizan made a fast start at their home ground, taking the lead in the 7th minute through young attacker Nemanja Trifunović. Their early advantage did not last long, as Zeleznicar quickly punished a mistake at the back, allowing Bulgarian midfielder Sylvester Jasper to fire in the equaliser.
Zeleznicar then grew stronger as the game continued and completed the comeback in the 33rd minute. Karikari climbed above his marker and headed in a fine cross from Dario Grgić, giving the visitors a 2–1 lead and quieting the home fans.
The away side returned from the break with confidence and stretched their advantage almost immediately. Grgić, who had earlier set up Karikari, scored just a minute into the second half to make it 3–1.
Ghanaian defender Abdul Aziz Yusif played the full match and helped Zeleznicar stay organised at the back during the closing stages. Another Ghanaian, Ibrahim Zubairu, entered the game for Partizan in the 81st minute but was unable to change the result.
Karikari’s goal takes his season tally to three goals and one assist in 11 league games, showing his growing importance to Zeleznicar’s attack.
