English-Ghanaian defender Ivan Agyaakwah scored an early goal as Greenville Triumph SC secured an entertaining 4-3 victory over Spokane Velocity FC in the USL League One.
Agyaakwah opened the scoring in the fourth minute to give Greenville an ideal start before Nick Spielman’s own goal extended the hosts’ advantage to 2-0 just six minutes later.
Spokane responded in the 31st minute through Ali Elmasnaouy, who reduced the deficit and gave the visitors hope of mounting a comeback.
Greenville restored their two-goal cushion after the break when Anthony Patti found the net, but Spokane refused to surrender without a fight.
Luis Gil converted a penalty in the 72nd minute before Devin Boyce struck four minutes later to bring Spokane level at 3-3.
Elmasnaouy then completed his brace in the 87th minute, scoring the decisive goal to seal all three points for Greenville in a dramatic finish.
Agyaakwah, who delivered a solid performance in defence after giving his side the early lead, was substituted in the 86th minute and replaced by Ezra White.
The victory lifted Greenville Triumph SC to 27 points, while Spokane Velocity FC remained sixth in the standings.
Agyaakwah’s contribution at both ends of the pitch will provide encouragement for Greenville as they prepare for their next USL League One fixture against Independence on October 17.
